The following is a copy of a letter Mum sent to Joyce and Tom Early in 1954

The following is copy of a letter also sent to Joyce and Tom by our sister Elizabeth Ruby Fryer (Betty) in 1949 it was written when in Pinewood Sanatorium where she was gravely ill with Tuberculosis, I will never ever forget Betty she was sent home as they could not do anything more for her, I used to sit in her room every day talking with her she taught me how to knit (came in handy 1974 in New Zealand where I taught Eileen's Daughter Alison how to cast on) I was sitting with her one afternoon when she said David I feel very sick, I said will I get mum to get the Doctor she said no I WANT TO SEE MY JESUS, you can imagine how I felt I went out and was crying and sitting on the stairs when mum said whats wrong I said mum Betty is dying she said no shes not. I had to leave and do my Paper run I was crying all the way there and people were asking what was wrong I told them, I had to deliver a paper to our place and when I got there was just the time Betty past away this all such a short time after telling me what she wanted

Today was my last day in Taiwan, and we had to drive for 5 hours to the Airport, most of the time spent on As I was told the Worlds 3rd most Dangerous Road I and I can see why; I was hanging on all the time the road was so winding and mountainous, not allowing me time to take pictures, last year Rocks fell onto the road and at the time there were to Tourist buses passing the rocks took the Buses and the Road Down a very high cliff into the see all lives were lost, we did see some loose rocks that had fallen along the road you would not know much about it if they landed on your car, but there were some very mad drivers as well, it was an experience that I would not be very keen to do again, Mind you the scenery was so beautifull these are the only ones I had a chance to take.

I-min Temple, the martyrs of the homeland and establishing the Fangliao I-min Temple is to show respect for folk heroes of who nearly 300 heroes were killed during the two most famous civil wars. They were buried behind the Temple, (will complete Later)

This evening we went to a cafe for dinner it was crowded so we had to wait our turn outside, We went to sit down but there were two bricks holding newspaper in place and on the newspaper were bird droppings, wondered why this should be and when looking above did see the baby birds in these pictures, and was not quick enough to catch mother flying in and feeding them, a very well made nest as you will see, and no University Degree in Structural Engineering Required

Today being first day In Hsin-chu Taiwan did with friend and his work colleges visit the office of a new building site where one of the work colleges was interested in an apartment on the site, one of the work college children above and others looking at plans below

Don't know how he did it, but he turned his eyelids up and made face (which he said) looked like a pig

Today on my return from Sheffield to Barming, I now have use of the car in picture for 5 days a VW Polo very nice to drive, I did drive up to Bermondsey to see some places of childhood memory.

I went to my Senior School Called Credon Road, the only thing left was the street sign, and as an elderly lady told me the school was demolished about 15 years ago

Today I said farewell to Zenni and Sid after spending a wonderful time with them and members of their family, the flight was delayed due to the eruption in Iceland and being told `I was not booked on the plane. then only to be told my name was wrong they had me listed as Mr David and christian name as Fryer, and then when getting to Frankfurt in Germany having only 35 minutes to catch the plane to London luckily it all worked out OK, and getting to London went through the automated check in where you put your passport in this machine with you picture showing and it recognises you photo the either rejects or accepts withing in 90 seconds it let me go walked straight to baggage and mine was waiting there. within 20 minutes of getting off plane I was met by Paula

Today I travelled by air to Edmonton to spend some time with Nephew Steve and his wife Heather and Their Wonderful Family This a clock run buy liquid invented by a French scientist st the Abbotsford Airport you can see bottom left the hour and right side the minutes,

When Steve picked me up at the airport I was surprised how flat the countryside was, and he said it was prairie country, I always thought it would be mountainous, and on our way home Steve got a phone call from his son Gary saying he was getting a different car and would like his dads advice, so we stopped of on the way home and in the pictures is Gary, Steve and I and his new car

Today we had a family gathering at Zenni and Sid's home with One Niece Jane, her Daughter Jemimah and Two of her sons Aiden and Nate, Two Great Nieces Julie her partner Stephen and their Daughter Aizlynn, Jennifer and her Husband Josh with Daughters Sydney and Jordyn.

Today I went for Sky Train and Water Bus to Northern Vancouver, I could not resist this picture of how neighbours have worked together and made the footpath area beautiful

Today Being a big day in Canadian Politics it was federal Election, and a wet day after voting Zenni went to visit her Daughter and Sid and I did some shopping returning home on the bus, and since getting ON the plane to Canada and there being at least 50 Sikhs on board, they seem to follow me everywhere here in Canada, so I could not resist taking this Picture when A Fryer was Sitting next to a Sikh on a bus.

Dinner tonight, just Sid and I, I can't remember the last time ever I had a meal alone with Sid

Today we had a quiet day, where we walked around the local area looking at the houses, then having lunch and a walk along the river front One of the beautiful homes
